Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the main difference between Intel 12th Gen and 13th Gen processors?
The 13th Gen (Raptor Lake) processors are a massive step up from 12th Gen. Intel significantly increased the clock speeds, expanded the L2 and L3 cache sizes (which is amazing for gaming), and added more Efficient-cores (E-cores) to the i5, i7, and i9 models. This means a 13th Gen CPU will give you noticeably higher frame rates in games and much faster rendering times for video editing compared to its 12th Gen equivalent.
Can I use my older DDR4 RAM with an Intel 13th Gen processor?
Yes! One of the biggest advantages of Intel’s 13th Gen processors is that they support both older DDR4 memory and newer DDR5 memory. This makes upgrading much cheaper. However, you must choose a motherboard that matches your RAM. A DDR4 motherboard will not accept DDR5 RAM, and vice versa. Check the specifications of the motherboard you are buying, or ask our team for a compatible pairing.
Do I need to buy a new motherboard if I am upgrading to 13th Gen?
If you currently have a 12th Gen processor and a 600-series motherboard (like a B660 or Z690), you do not need a new motherboard! Because 13th Gen uses the same LGA 1700 socket, it will drop right in. You will just need to update your motherboard’s BIOS first. If you book our doorstep installation service in Mumbai, our technicians will handle the BIOS flash for you. If you are building from scratch, we recommend pairing these chips with a newer 700-series motherboard (like B760 or Z790).
What does the “KF” mean in processors like the i5-13600KF?
The “K” means the processor is unlocked, allowing you to overclock it for even more performance (if you pair it with a Z-series motherboard). The “F” means it does not have integrated graphics. Therefore, a “KF” processor is unlocked for overclocking but requires you to own a dedicated graphics card (like an NVIDIA RTX or AMD Radeon GPU) to plug your monitor into.
